Nellie Irene Davis, 80, of Rantoul, Kansas, passed away Jan. 30, 2020, at Rock Creek, Ottawa, Kansas.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2020, at Ruhamah Baptist Church, Rantoul, Kansas. Interment will follow at Ruhamah Cemetery. The family will meet with friends for a visitation from 4-7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, also at Ruhamah Baptist Church. She was born April 4 or 6, 1939, in Mound City, Kansas, the daughter of Chester Dingus and Ina (McGregory) Dingus. Nellie grew up in the Pleasanton, Kansas area, graduating from Pleasanton High School with the class of 1958.

On Feb. 14, 1959, Nellie was united in marriage to Donnie P. Davis in Pleasanton, Kansas. Nellie and Donnie moved to Rantoul, Kansas in 1961. They shared 55 years of marriage until the death of Donnie in 2014.

Nellie was a salesperson for Avon and Tupperware for many years all over Franklin and surrounding counties. She enjoyed her job and loved the social aspects of having Tupperware parties and selling Avon. In the 1970s, she also worked for the Kansas Department of Social Services in Ottawa.

Nellie was a member of Ruhamah Baptist Church and the Get Together Club, both of Rantoul, where she served on various committees and held numerous office positions. She also was active in the church American Baptist Women and served for many years helping organize and make church dinners. Nellie was very active as co-owner of Don’s Kennel that sold Boston Terriers and Rat Terriers. She loved helping him and meeting the families and keeping up on the dogs over the years. Nellie also enjoy bluegrass festivals and going with her husband to hear good music. Her favorite trip was their trip to Alaska; she was always ready to go again. She was very active in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. She never missed a rodeo, hog show, game, or event they had. She was proud to be a member of the Rantoul community, but so much more proud of her family that she loved dearly.

Nellie is preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Davis; her parents; five sisters, Elizabeth, Ruth, Eva, Donna, Katherine; and two brothers, Marvin, and Carl.

She is survived by two children, Jack Davis and his wife, Lisa, Princeton, Kansas; Darla Ouellette and her husband, Edward, Rantoul, Kansas; three brothers, Clarence “Red” Dingus and his wife, Leeta, Holcomb, Kansas; Cecil Dingus, Pleasanton, Kansas; Robert “Runt” Dingus and his wife, Sue, Olathe, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Wade Davis, Tristan Davis and his wife, Kaylyn; Megan Davis, D.J. Ouellette and his wife, Alissa; Katie Underwood, Vincent Ouellette and his wife, Kira; Elli Unruh and her husband, Daniel; Brylon Ouellette; and eight great-grandchildren.
