Ottawa Municipal Court continues to be closed at least into early May. Weekly reminders will be posted through social media until court operations resume, said Ottawa Police Chief Adam Weingartner.

No fines are due and no warrants will be issued for unpaid fines, Weingartner said.

The department fields about 30-40 phone calls per day from people concerned about their court cases, he said.

"Even after the stay-at-home orders are lifted, and when court operations return, my staff will work with defendants on appearances and payments," Weingartner said. "We will administer justice in a common-sense way and will not unnecessarily burden our community members while still holding those accountable for committing crimes.

"You can help us all out by not speeding, not drinking and driving, not use illegal drugs or steal from anyone."
