Ottawa seniors may have an avenue to use Ottawa Recreation Commission facilities for free.

The ORC has partnered with the Silver Sneakers, a free program for adults 65 and older. Insurance companies offer Silver Sneakers program to their members.

Enrollment begins Monday at the Goppert Building. Those who have a Silver Sneakers card from an insurance provider are asked to bring it in. If seniors do not have a card, the ORC staff can access their information.

The Silver Sneakers program is good for 10 visits per month. If a patron uses the facility in addition to the 10 free visits, they will pay out of pocket.

On the first visit, the ORC staff will enroll patrons into the program and provide a Silver Sneakers pass, ORC officials said. Each month, patrons will receive a new card containing 10 visits. Patrons also can sign into a Silver Sneakers book to ensure we can report all visits appropriately to Silver Sneakers.
