Juanita Rose Thompson, 85, of Pomona, Kansas, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at her home with her loving daughter Vickey by her side.
A graveside service will take place at noon on March 10, 2018, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. A memorial benefit will follow at the Sinderbloc in Pomona for all who would like to attend.
Juanita was born Aug. 6, 1932, in Ada, Oklahoma, the daughter of Clarence and Pauline (Cowger) Poarch.
Juanita worked at King Radio in Ottawa, Kansas, in 1973. She became a supervisor until her retirement in 1992. She was extremely proud of her career.
Juanita married Roy Barnes in 1946. They later divorced. Three children were born to this marriage, Mitch Barnes, Carol Logan and Roy Barnes. She then married Ronald Thompson in 1958. They later divorced. Six children were born to this marriage, Vickey Thompson, Ronald T. Thompson, Lori Cantrell, Jonathan Thompson, Paula Sitlington, and Robin Williams.
She was preceded in death by daughters Lori Cantrell and Paula Sitlington, and son Mitch Barnes, and grandson Brian Motelet.
Juanita is survived by daughters Carol Logan and her husband Scott of Lawrence, Kansas, Vickey Thompson and fiance Trini Brown, and Robin Williams and her fiance Randy Patterson, her sons Keith Barnes of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Ronald Thompson and his wife Edna of Topeka, Kansas, and John Thompson and his wife Penny of Ashville, N.C. She is survived also by 20 grandchildren.
Juanita was called mom and grandma by a very large number of people, including Terri Caruthers of Baldwin City, Kansas, who Juanita considered as her own daughter, and Randi Mills who called her grandma from the age of 9 months. She was loved by many people and had many friends. She was a great mother who loved her children with a passion, and would do everything in her power for them. She loved growing flowers every spring and watching her hummingbirds.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Cancer Foundation in Ottawa, Kansas.
