Charles “Chuck” Schoonover, 59, of Ottawa, passed away Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at Richmond Healthcare & Rehabilitation.

Cremation is planned with a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Dengel & Son Mortuary.

Chuck was born June 11, 1958, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Charles C. and Norma Sue (Brown) Schoonover.

He was a lifelong resident of Franklin and Anderson counties.

He graduated from Central Heights High School with the class of 1976.

Chuck was united in marriage to Toni Teter July 4, 1986, in Ottawa. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his father, Charles Schoonover of Gardner; four children, Amanda Hulse (Charlie Casby) of Kansas City, Kansas, Joseph Schoonover (Michael Passen) of Garnett, Melissa Riemer (Missy Riemer) of Ottawa, and Nathan Schoonover of Richmond; sister, Cathy Middleton (Jontae Middleton) of Gardner; six grandchildren; niece, nephews and cousins; and a special friend, Rose Morton of Ottawa.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Schoonover; and brother, Christopher Schoonover.

Chuck was employed as a mason for The International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers in Kansas City for 20 years. He worked many years alongside his father. Some of his work projects include the Walker Art Gallery and water fountain at the city square in Garnett, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and Detention Center and many Kansas City metro projects, including the Kansas Speedway.

He was a member of the BAC Local Union No. 15 in Kansas City. Chuck was a very generous person, with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and the demolition derby.
