Dwight O. Welton, 88, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018.

Family will meet with friends from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation. Dwight was born Friday, Aug. 8, 1930, in Rantoul, Kansas, the son of Willis and Mae E. (Gladding) Welton. He graduated from Rantoul High School with the class of 1948. Following high school, Dwight attended machinist trade school in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Dwight has lived in Lawrence since 2013, moving from Kansas City, Kansas, where he resided for over 50 years.

Dwight was united in marriage to Delores J. Vallier on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1958 in Rantoul. She preceded him in death on April 25, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Mae Welton; four brothers; and six sisters.

Dwight is survived by his three daughters, Denise Gillogly and husband, Dale, Jr., of Dell Rapids, South Dakota; Delinda Welton of Lawrence; and Delaine Zeller and husband, Ed, also of Lawrence; sister, Vada Cartmill and husband, Max, of Ottawa; sister-in-law, Carol Welton of Ottawa; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He served in the United States Army in the early 1950s.

Dwight was a lifelong machinist, working at many locations throughout the years. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Lawrence. Dwight enjoyed reading, woodworking, fishing and watching sports. Above all, he loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren.
