Jesse Eugene Chick, Jr., 92, of Richmond, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa, Kansas.

Graveside funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at St. John’s Cemetery, Homewood, Kansas. He was born December 30, 1926 in Columbia, MO, the son of Jesse Eugene Chick, Sr. and Margaret Flossy (Daniel) Chick.

Jesse enlisted in the United States Army on May 1, 1945. He served his country proudly as a Quarter Master of the 25th Infantry Division attaining the rank of Corporal during World War II in the Asiatic–Pacific Theater. He was awarded the Victory Medal, Army Occupation of Japan Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon during his service to his country.

Following his service Jesse began his career as an over the road truck driver working primarily for a truss company. Jesse drove for over 40 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Teamsters Local #41 of Kansas City.

On Aug. 30, 1968, Jesses was united in marriage to Peggy Lorraine Swartz in Netawaka, Oklahoma. They enjoyed 24 years of loving marriage until the death of Peggy on Dec. 10, 1992.

Jesse is survived by two daughters, Terri Lynn Sutton, of Manhattan, Kansas; Vicki Phelps, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; a daughter –in-law, Winona Phelps, of Paola, KS; seven grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles Chick.
