Charles E. Sypher, 80, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas.

Memorial services for Charles will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, at the Appanoose Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Appanoose Baptist Church or Midland Hospice Care, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS. 66451.

He was born on March 9, 1939, in Mullinsville, Kansas, the son of Orville E. and Ovie E. (Pedigo) Sypher.

At an early age, the family moved to Greensburg, Kansas, where Charles attended elementary school and graduated from Greensburg High School in 1957. After graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force National Guard while working for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline. In 1962, Charles enrolled at Fort Hays State University and later transferred to Emporia State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Master’s as a school psychologist.

He was employed as a school psychologist in Storm Lake, Iowa, Oberlin, Kansas, and as Director of Special Education in Ottawa, Kansas, and the ANW Coop in southeast Kansas as an assistant director. He later returned to Ottawa as Director of Special Education where he retired in 2003.

Charles was a member of the Appanoose Baptist Church, where he served on several boards, and he was on the Board of Directors in the South Shore Homeowners Association at Vassar.

Charles was united in marriage to LaDean Smith in 1963 at Agra, Kansas. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Terry.

Charles is survived by his wife LaDean, of the home; his three sons, Jeffrey C. Sypher and wife, Tracey, of Melvern, Kansas; Dustin S. Sypher, of Lawrence, Kansas; and Michael D. Sypher and wife, Sarah, of Lawrence, Kansas; three grandchildren, Jasper Sypher, William Knapp and Aniyah Sypher; four step-grandchildren, Steffen King, Shannon McMahon, Noah Powell and Jordan DiGennaro; and several great-grandchildren.
