Robert E. Mason, 83, of Burlington, Kansas, formerly of Ottawa, passed away at his home with family by his side Monday, April 6, 2020.

Private interment will be at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Coffey County Cancer Support Group or Coffey County Public Transportation c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067. Bob was born March 14, 1937, in the Chippewa area of Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of Henry and Carrie Dora (Marks) Mason.

He lived 61 years in Ottawa, Kansas, moving to Burlington, Kansas, in 1998.

Bob attended Pomona High School, later earning his General Educational Development degree, and graduated from chemical school, both while serving in the United States Army.

He served during the Cold War in the United States Army from March 20, 1956 until Dec. 14, 1964. He attained the rank of Specialist Fifth Class in the Chemical Corps in the Regular Army and received the Good Conduct Medal, MKM (Carbine) Medal, Marksman Rifle for the M14and the GCMDL Award twice.

On Sept. 28, 1958, Bob was united in marriage with Delma Yohe at Ottawa. She preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 1986. On Jan. 29, he was married to Lila Lewis at Ottawa. She preceded him in death on March 18, 1999. On April 26, 2018, Bob married Judith Ann “Judy” Romary at Burlington. She survives of the home.

Bob worked for the City of Ottawa as a power plant operator from 1974 or 1975 until retiring in 1996.

He was a member of the American Legion Burlington Post 38. Bob loved gardening, walking, and sightseeing. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the doctors that took such good care of Bob.

`He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Carrie Mason; sister, Pauline Arb; four brothers, Henry Mason, Jr., Charlie Mason, Joseph William “Bill” Mason, Louis Elroy “Boots” Mason; son, Bradley Eugene Mason; and step-grandson, Kaleb Osmundson.

Bob is also survived by three sisters, Shirley Bulgarelli, Ella Mae Wynn and Mabel L. Lee and husband, James; brother, Elmer Mason; granddaughter, Summer Sky Mason; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Osmundson; and step-granddaughter, Christina Osmundson.
