Betty Lou (Garrett) McCormack
Olathe - Betty, 93, Olathe, passed away on June 24, 2021. A member of the "Greatest Generation," born during the Great Depression to Orville D. and Mary Grace Garrett, preceding her in death, son David, brothers John and Billy and sister Almeda, and daughter-in-law Connie (Barry.) Survivors are: husband of 73 years, Wilbur L. McCormack (Lee); sons: Rick, Barry and Dennis/Dustine; 14 grand-children, 19 great grand-children and 7 surviving nieces and nephews. Graduating from Wellsville High School in 1946, she moved to Ottawa, was employed by Ottawa Steel Corp., as secretary to the Sales Mgr. Later she became a legal Secretary. In 1949 she and Lee purchased their first home in Olathe and raised four sons. Through the years, the family traveled all the states except Hawaii. Betty enjoyed working with her hands, had a strong work ethic, was meticulous and took pride in whatever she did. Creativity was evident in all her many projects. Being a talented seamstress, she won many awards, including "National Best of Show" in the National Grange Sewing competition in Greensboro, N.C. Betty designed and built a brick-walled circular patio for their home. She also designed and built an all-in-one wooden Chess Set, including ceramic chess men, for each of her sons, plus many other projects. A Visitation-Memorial will be Friday, July 2, 2021, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Olathe, Ks. Interment at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, K-68 Hwy, Wellsville, KS.
