(Lee) Wilbur L. McCormack Jr.
Came into this world on June 5, 1928 and departed to catch up with Mom on Tuesday, June 30, 2021.
Pops was born in Kenneth, Kansas to Wilbur (Butch) McCormack, Sr., and Stella (Tankersley) McCormack. Dad lived in Muncie Indiana, Stanley, Wellsville, Princeton, and Olathe, Kansas. Dad caddied at age 13 for one of his uncles. He ran a root beer route at 15 and worked on the Star Lane farm at 16 taking care of expensive show horses. Being too young for WWII, he was a parts runner at the Olathe Naval Air Station. He proposed to Mom at the movie theater with a diamond ring in her popcorn. They married on his birthday June 5, 1948. Dad and Mom moved to Chicago for a short time and then in 1949 settled in Olathe, Kansas where they raised four boys. Dad worked for General Motors B.O.P. Division in Fairfax, Kansas City until 1960. He started his own contracting firm (W. L. McCormack and Sons) in 1960. Dad built homes, additions, remodeled and trimmed homes until retiring at age 75 in 2003. Dad was highly sought due to his self-taught, highly skilled master carpentry. Seemed he worked on just about every home in the Olathe area. Dad taught us to be men while Mom taught us to be gentlemen. Mom and Dad celebrated 73 years of marriage June 5, 2021. Dad fought valiantly the past few years to take care of Mom as dementia set in. He was relieved of this duty on June 24, when Mom passed. He is preceded in death by wife Betty Lou (Garrett) McCormack, son David, parents Wilbur McCormack Sr., and Stella (Tankersley) McCormack, sister Barbara, brother Byron and daughter in-law Connie (Barry). Pops is survived by sons; Rick Casper, WY, Barry, Portland, OR, Dennis (Dustine) Salt Lake City, UT, 14 grand-children, 19 great grand-children and 7 surviving nieces and nephews.
