Baldwin City - Freda Nell Holmes, 86, of Baldwin City, KS passed away Friday, October 1st, 2021 at Vintage Park Baldwin City.

She was born on the family farm near Vinland, KS September 2nd, 1935 to Melvin Holmes and Esther Holmes. She attended elementary school in the Vinland area, often in a one room school house. She was active in Glee Club and Basketball at Vinland High School where she graduated in 1953.

In the late 60's she moved to Baldwin City, KS with her parents helping tend the huge garden her parents planted every year, along with helping with the home and later taking care of her parents. She worked at the local dry cleaners in the early 70's before being employed at Orchard Lane Nursing Home (now Baldwin Health Center), where she spent over 30 years in the laundry and housekeeping departments until her retirement.

She was a member in the Vinland Church of Christ as young child and adult. After moving to Baldwin she became a member of the Baldwin City Church of Christ. She loved collecting miniature, decorative pitchers and knick knacks, but mostly miniature pitchers. She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and search a word books. However, her favorite activity was walking. For years she could be seen walking around Baldwin City, sometimes alone and other times with a friend. Walking always made her happy.
