SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Ross Anderson scored Ottawa’s lone goal over the weekend, and the Braves picked up a tie and a loss in Iowa.
Anderson, senior midfielder, scored at the 20-minute mark in the first half of Saturday’s contest against Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. He was assisted by Aaron Kavanaugh, junior forward.
The Braves clung to that lead for 43 minutes of match play until Moringside’s Joao Soares scored at the 63-minute mark in the second half to equalize the score.
The match ended in a 1-1 tie following double overtime.
Angel Cruz, sophomore goalkeeper, had 13 saves for the Braves.
Ottawa was out-shot 25-9 and 14-3 in shots-on-goal.
In Sunday’s match with Briar Cliff, Ottawa struggled to keep the ball out of the net. Rodrigo Oliveira had two goals for the Chargers, and Briar Cliff won handily, 5-0.
The Chargers out-shot Ottawa 20-11, and had an 11-5 advantage in shots-on-goal.
The Braves (0-2-1) return to action 5 p.m. Friday at Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri.
