The Ottawa University baseball team dropped two games to a tough opponent Tuesday. An 11-6 and 8-6 loss to visiting William Woods University at OU’s Alumni Park ended a shortened homestand for the Braves in which they went 1-4. The team’s four-game series with Dordt College this past weekend was cancelled.
The Braves tied Game 1 at 2-2 in the bottom of the second on a single to left by Chris Morrison, junior shortstop, but William Woods responded in the top of the third with four runs. The Owls scored four more runs in the top of the fourth, and OU never recovered.
Hecmart Nieves, senior outfielder, went 3-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Down 6-2 in Game 2, the Braves scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth off four hits. Dalton Rankin, freshman second baseman, drove in Trevor McClanahan, junior outfielder, on a single, Nieves drove in Rankin with a double and Willies Estrada, junior catcher, drove in Nieves on a double.
McClanahan drove in Cole Boardman, senior designated hitter, in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game 6-6.
The Owls scored two runs on a hit and an OU error in the top of the ninth inning to break the tie. Ottawa went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning on a pop out, ground out and fly out to end the game.
The Braves (3-10) return to conference play Friday and Saturday in a three-game series at Sterling College. The first game is set for 2 p.m. Friday in Sterling.
