For the third time in just five matches this season, the Braves fell by one goal.

Saint Ambrose University’s Jared Morgan scored Saturday’s game-winning goal with 36 seconds left to lift the Fighting Bees over the Ottawa University men’s lacrosse team 8-7 at Peoples Bank Field. The loss drops OU to 1-4 on the season, despite the Braves actually having goal differential of plus five (54-49).

Ottawa took a 5-2 lead midway through the second period. Pearson Willis, junior attacker, scored three of the Braves’ goals with Aidan Baker, junior midfielder, and Ryan Alley, senior midfielder, added one apiece.

Saint Ambrose stormed back by scoring four of the next five goals to make it 6-6 at the end of the third.

Alley scored a goal two minutes into the fourth period to give Ottawa the lead back, but that was all the offense the Braves could muster. A goal by Matt Romero at the 6:33 mark set up the Fighting Bees’ winning score.

Ottawa had a 30-29 advantage in shots, and Saint Ambrose had a 19-18 advantage in shots-on-goal.

The Braves are back at home 7 p.m. March 28 against (RV) Missouri Valley College.
