WELLSVILLE — Small town basketball will boast big talent in the city.
Sydney Dwyer and Brock Campbell are set to represent Wellsville in the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association All-Star game Friday at Avila University, 11901 Wornall Road, Kansas City, Missouri. The girl’s game is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the boy’s game set for 7:45 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m.
Dwyer, senior guard for WHS, is on the Kansas girls team, coached by Campbell, WHS head girls basketball coach, and Baldwin’s Bob Martin.
“It means a lot,” Dwyer said. “I’m the only 3A girl there and not many people notice small schools. This community has helped me a lot throughout the season, and I’m just excited to get to represent Wellsville.”
Baldwin’s Abby Ogle is also an All-Star honoree for Kansas in the Kansas vs. Missouri-style game.
“It was nice too to have Abby Ogle from Baldwin down there,” Campbell said. “I think it is great for our program. It is really exciting, and I’m really honored to be able to coach [Dwyer] too. We had our first practice [Tuesday] and everything went really well.”
