FORT SCOTT — Ottawa sinks to the consolation bracket this weekend.

The American Legion Post 60 Arrows baseball team dropped both of Friday’s pool play games in the Patriot Classic hosted in Fort Scott. The Southwest Tigers of Lamar, Missouri stumped the Arrows in Game 1 9-2, and Ottawa couldn’t rally in its second game, losing to Central MIssouri Phenom Black 12-6.

The Arrows watched early leads evaporate in both games. Cameron Reynolds drove in Trenton Worley in the bottom of the first inning agianst Southwest, but Ottawa didn’t score another run until the sixth inning, by which time the Tigers had a 5-1 lead. Wayne Laurie hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Wyatt Johnston — who hit a leadoff triple — making it 5-2. The Tigers, however, put the game away by scoring four runs — three off a bases-clearing double — in the top of the seventh.

Johnston’s second triple of the day helped Ottawa take a 2-0 lead against Central Missouri in Game 2. Following two runs by Phenom Black in the top of the second, Ottawa retook the lead with a run in the bottom of the frame. Five runs in the third and three in the sixth put Central Missouri up 10-3. Ottawa scored a run in the bottom of the sixth and two in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to catch up.

The Arrows (7-13) play today in the consolation bracket of the tournament. Seeding for today’s games was not determined by press time. The tournament features an onslaught of talent from both Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas, including Ottawa, Iola, Wellington, Kansas Indians, Central Missouri Phenom White, Phenom Gray, Phenom Orange and Phenom Black, Arkansas Express 16U, Southwest Tigers, McDonald County (Missouri), Arkansas Express Jumper and Arkansas Express Rogers.
