The Ottawa Mudcats women’s football team has found a home.

The organization announced Wednesday that it officially joined the Women’s Football Alliance for the 2019 season, according to a team news release.

“We are very pleased that we got accepted into a league that has been around for many years and has a rich tradition” Shawn Smith, Mudcats head coach, said in the release.

The WFA will kick off April 1. Ottawa is set to play a total of four home games and four away games plus postseason play, the release said. The WFA website — — lists 63 teams across 31 U.S. states and three tier divisions. Ottawa is the second team in Kansas, joining the Kansas City Titans.

Tryouts for the team is set for 1:30 p.m. Sept. 22 with a $20 registration cost, the release said.
