It was a day of firsts for the Braves. Ottawa University’s men’s soccer program lost its first match this season 4-0 Saturday at home against Midland University. It was the first time the team has been shut out this year.

Midland scored all of its goals in the second half led by James Kilburn, who had two goals on five shots.

The Brave offense managed just six shots to Midland’s 22. Anthony Galeana, senior defender, led OU with two shots.

“I would say right now we need to get our better attacking players to the goal more,” Brendon McGonigle, OU head men’s soccer coach, said. “We need to put them in better positions. A couple of them have been frustrated the past couple of games dropping too far back, sometimes dropping into our half of the field to get the ball, which really helps out the other team. I think we are going to get there.”

Ottawa (2-1-1) plays 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at home against Graceland University.
