The Ottawa University men’s basketball team’s 2020-21 recruiting class grew by six players.


The Braves signed John Long, Michael Rucker, Mario Cheatem, Tyler Trogstad, Nasir Washington and Alyus Wisdom.


Long, a former Santa Fe Trail star, is a transfer from Pratt Community College. In 2019-20, Long played in 25 games, making 10 starts for the Beavers. He averaged four points per game, shooting 44.7 percent from the floor, and 42.6 from behind the three-point line. Long scored a career-high 18 points against Butler Community College.


At Santa Fe Trail High School, he lettered in basketball, baseball, track, and football for the Chargers. Long was a three-time all-state and all-conference selection (2017, 2018, 2019). He was selected to play in the 2019 KBCA All-Star Game and the 2019 SCK All-Star Game. Long also was a member of the National Honor Society.


Long played travel ball for SSA under head coach Will Spradling, a former Kansas State guard. He plans to major in business administration.


Rucker, Houston, Texas, is a transfer from Lee College. He attended Heights High School. At HHS, Rucker lettered in basketball for the Bulldogs. He plans to major in kinesiology.


Cheatem, Grandview, Missouri, attended Grandview Christian School. He earned four athletic letters for the Golden Eagles. Cheatem helped GCS to three MCSAA state championships (2017, 2018, 2019). He helped lead the Golden Eagles to a 2019 Class 2A MCSAA Track and Field state championship. Cheatem earned the track team’s most improved award in 2018 and 2019. He was part of the National Honor Society and an A+ Scholar.


Cheatem plans to major in business administration.


Trogstad, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and attended The Classical Academy. He lettered in golf and basketball for the Titans. Trogstad helped The Classical Academy to the Colorado 4A State Boys Basketball Tournament Final 4. He earned second team all-district and all-region honors. Trogstad was a two-time Colorado State Golf Tournament participant. He earned second team all-league honors and was an honorable mention all-region selection. Trogstad plans to concentrate on general studies before deciding on a major.


Washington, Carrollton, Texas, attended Hebron High School where he earned two letters on the basketball court for the Hawks. Washington participated in the SC Underrated Came Top 30 and was named a Future ISO All-American. He was named honorable mention all-district in 2019-20.


Washington plans to major in physical education.


Wisdom, Lawrence, attended Lawrence Free State High School. He lettered in basketball, helping the Firebirds to two Kansas State High School Basketball Tournaments.


Wisdom plans to major in music.
