EMPORIA — The Ottawa Arrows displayed grit and determination Tuesday night in Emporia.

The Arrows were down 6-0 to Emporia after five innings in the first game of a doubleheader at Soden’s Grove. Ottawa was run-ruled twice last week by the defending state champions.

Ottawa began to string hits together in the sixth inning. The Arrows scored four runs in the sixth inning, three in the seventh to send the game into extra innings and plated three in the eighth to rally for a 10-7 victory. Ottawa finished with a season-best 14 hits.

It was the first victory for the Arrows over Emporia since the 2017 season.

Emporia salvaged a split with a 10-0 victory in the nightcap.

Ottawa turned the momentum around in the top of the sixth inning with four runs.

Aidan Michel put Ottawa on the board with an RBI single. Antonio Espinosa followed with a two-RBI double. He later scored on a passed ball to bring Ottawa within 6-4.

Emporia added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead 7-4.

Ottawa loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh inning. Espinosa, down to his final strike, ripped a three-run double to tie the game.

Ottawa hitters kept the pressure on Emporia in the top of the eighth. Ryan Laurie delivered an RBI single to give Ottawa an 8-7 lead. Two walks with the bases loaded forced in two runs to give Ottawa a three-run cushion.

Michel tossed a quick eighth inning to secure the victory.

The second game was all Emporia, which garnered the split with the run-rule victory.

Ottawa (2-4) plays 6 p.m. Friday at home in a doubleheader against Garnett.

This weekend’s Pete Cearfoss Golf Tournament and alumni game have been canceled because of COVID-19.

The Arrows added a doubleheader to schedule. Ottawa will play 6 p.m. July 16 against Oak Park in Wellsville. The Ottawa A’s play Oak Park on July 22.
