Arrows need jolt of tourney magic
The Ottawa Arrows need a shot of positive play.
The Arrows have lost seven of their past eight games. Iola thumped Ottawa twice Wednesday (9-0 and 15-1).
Ottawa is looking for some tournament magic this weekend in Emporia. Before the skid, Ottawa went 3-1 in the Pittsburg tourney.
Ottawa (7-14) plays two games Friday in the Sam Ellis Classic at Sodens Grove against familiar foes. The Arrows play at noon against the Topeka Senators. Ottawa plays 7:30 p.m. against host Emporia.
Ottawa has a 2-1 mark against Topeka, splitting a doubleheader Monday. The Arrows are 1-3 against Emporia.
The Arrows had a forgettable performance against Iola. Not much went right. Ottawa struggled at the plate and on the mound.
In the nightcap, Ottawa pitchers walked 14 Iola hitters and committed three errors.
Surrendering big innings was the demise of the Arrows. Iola scored seven runs in the second inning of both games to break the games wide open.
The Arrows were limited to two hits in the first game and four in the nightcap. Brett Hadl had two hits in the nightcap.
