OU men’s wrestling adds to roster

The Ottawa University men’s wrestling team signed a trio of wrestlers.

The Braves added Friedrich Maisberger IV, of Topeka; Diago Hernandez, of Garden City; and Santiago Salas, of Los Lunas, N.M.

Maisberger is a transfer from Lindenwood University and attended Shawnee Heights High School.

Maisberger was a member of the men’s wrestling program at No. 7 ranked Lindenwood University. He finished the season with a record of 1-6, competing in the 125 pound weight class.

At Shawnee Heights High School, Maisberger lettered in wrestling, football, and track for the Thunderbirds. He was the United Kansas Conference wrestling champion, a two-time Centennial League champion, a four-time Kansas State Wrestling Tournament qualifier, a four-time 5A regional placer, a three-time All-City selection, a 2019 Shawnee County Winter Sports Athlete of the Year candidate an Adidas National Champion, and finished his high school career with an overall record of 127-37. As a senior, Maisberger had a record of 36-5 and was a first team all-academic selection.

On the football field, he helped the Thunderbirds to a Centennial League, district and regional championship. As a member of the Thunderbird track team, Maisberger was the UKC pole vault champion, earned third at the 5A regional and was a state qualifier in the pole vault.

Maisberger plans to go into secondary teaching, majoring in history.

Hernandez earned four letters in wrestling at Garden City High School. He was a two-time Kansas State Tournament placer, finishing fifth in 2018 and 2019. Hernandez was a two-time WAC first team selection and earned a 2019 regional championship.

Hernandez plans to concentrate on general studies before deciding on a major.

Salas lettered in wrestling and football at Los Lunas High School. He was a two-time district champion, a two-time state finalist, earned a New Mexico state championship, and was named to the all-academic team.

Salas plans to major in biology.
