West Franklin’s depth keys sweep of CH spikers

Depth is always the wildcard between good and great teams of any sport.

The West Franklin volleyball team displayed its depth this season and needed it Tuesday to dispatch Central Heights (25-15, 25-13 and 25-7, 25-9).

The Falcons played without senior leader Alex Coopman. In stepped Katie Ecord to take her spot.

“On any given night, I could be missing a varsity player and another player can step in and get the job done,” West Franklin coach Angie Corwine said. “I have so many options with these girls because my junior varsity team is very strong.”

The varsity and JV squads have identical 17-2 marks.

Nellie LaFountain had a career night at the net with 14 kills with an attack efficiency of 0.402. Jenna Walters finished with nine kills, followed by Allison Swank with seven, Riley Zentz, six, and Ecord, four. Sami Randall served a team-best eight aces and 12 digs.

Setter Ainsley Corwine finished with 32 assists. She was selected the Max Preps State Volleyball Player of the Week for her play during the final week of September.

The Falcons play Saturday at the Wellsville Invitational.

Katie Ecord: 4 kills.

Riley Zentz: 6 kills, 5 digs, 2.75 SRA.

Sami Randall: 8 aces, 2.57 SRA, 12 digs.
