OPD Alerts community of recent auto burglaries in Western Ottawa

The Ottawa Police Department is warning the community about a recent string of auto burglaries in the western part of town. According to OPD, the burglaries occurred from Canterbury Ct. to 19th and Ash on Wednesday evening. Residents of these areas are being asked to check their security cameras in an effort to identify any suspects in the case.

Climate change killing seabirds

PORTLAND, Maine – The warming of the planet is taking a deadly toll on seabirds that are suffering population declines from starvation, inability to reproduce, heat waves and extreme weather. Climate-related losses have hit albatrosses off the Hawaiian islands, northern gannets near the British Isles and puffins off the Maine coast.

Science report: US should make less plastic to save oceans

America needs to rethink and reduce the way it generates plastics because so much of the material is littering the oceans and other waters, the National Academy of Sciences says in a new report. The United States, the world’s top plastics waste producer, generates more than 46 million tons yearly, and about 2.2 billion pounds ends up in the world’s oceans, according to the academy’s report.
