Ottawa’s Historic Post Office wins “Couples Choice” Award from WeddingWire

Ottawa’s Historic Post Office event venue has received the Couple’s Choice Award from WeddingWire, an industry leader in wedding planning. Receiving an award like this is a big deal for any business, but especially for one in a little town like Ottawa: the HPO’s status as a 2022 award winner means that when couples search for venues on WeddingWire in the Lawrence, Topeka, Ottawa and Kansas City areas, HPO will come up as one of the top results. It’s quite an accomplishment for a building that’s been in Ottawa for over 105 years.

City of Ottawa holds first Legislative Coffee of 2022

The City of Ottawa held its first Legislative Coffee of the year last Saturday at the Ottawa Memorial Auditorium. Representatives Blaine Finch (R-Ottawa) and Mark Samsel (R-Wellsville) answered questions from the community, moderated by Blake Jorgensen and Richard Jackson. The Legislative Coffee provides a way for the community to hear about what their local politicians are accomplishing in Topeka and what they hope to work on during the 2022 legislative session.

Marlene Ann (Fredrickson) Switzer

Marlene Ann (Fredrickson) Switzer went to be with her heavenly father on January 19, 2022 at the age of 87. Marlene was born May 17, 1934 to Harold and Olive Fredrickson on her parents’ farm in Osage City, Kansas. Marlene loved growing up on the farm with her brothers and had many fond memories of that time. She attended Rapp School, a one-room schoolhouse, through 8th grade before graduating from Osage City High School in 1952. After attending the College of Emporia, where she was active in school and was homecoming attendant, Marlene attended Nursing School at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City where she obtained training to become a Registered Nurse. While attending Trinity, she went on a blind date and met the love of her life, Lloyd Switzer of Oakley, Kansas who was in the Air Force. After a short courtship, Lloyd and Marlene were married in Osage City, Kansas on June 23, 1957. Lloyd and Marlene were blessed with five children and shared more than 62 years together before Lloyd’s passing in November, 2019.
