John William “JW” Emerson was born in Checotah, Oklahoma on Saturday, September 20, 1930, to David Ervin and Della Elizabeth (Fennell) Emerson. JW passed from this life on January 23, 2022, at his home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, at 91 years of age.
Our father, Lonnie Dean Bones, the son of Harold and Beverly Bones was born on January 28, 1949, and died peacefully on November 6, 2021 due to complications from Covid. He is survived by his three children Yalonda Yo, Chad and Jesse Bones. His sisters Diane, Donna, brother Larry and his wife Roxanna. Grandchildren living all over the world and loving nieces and nephews too numerous to name.

After 15 years of battling cancer, Jo Wolken, age 73, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022, at her home. She was surrounded by her husband, daughter, and her hospice care team.

Donna Ruth Sutton McNabb was born July 13, 1935 in Melvern Kansas to Roy Phillip Sutton and Jesse May (Schupp) Sutton. Donna along with her parents attended Quenemo Baptist Church where she accepted the Lord as her personal savior as a young girl. After attending Maxim School, a one room schoolhouse, she transferred to Melvern High School where she graduated in 1953. On June 4, 1953, she married her high-school sweetheart, Daryl McNabb, and moved to El Paso, Texas, when Daryl began his time in the US Army. In April 1956, Daryl and Donna had their first child Rodney Duane McNabb who passed away shortly after his birth. Upon completing Daryl’s years of service, the McNabbs moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where Donna worked as a receptionist at Liberty Life Insurance Company while Daryl attended Bob Jones University. After completing his degree Daryl and Donna moved to Boiling Springs, South Carolina where Daryl served as pastor of Boiling Springs Baptist Church. During these years, Julie Ann and Melanie Sue were born. In 1963, the McNabbs moved their family back home to Waverly Kansas where they ministered for 53 years. In 1969, the Lord blessed the McNabb family with another precious little girl Nancy Ann. In the early 1990s, Donna began the Country Squire Guest House (senior assisted living) at their home on Trefoil Road. They retired in 2016, when they moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, near their daughter Melanie (and Tony). In the summer of 2021, they moved to Spring Lake, Michigan to live in an apartment in Julie’s (and Tom’s) home. On August 30, 2021, after nearly 70 years of married life, Daryl passed away. Six months later, on February 3, 2022, Donna opened her eyes in heaven and joined the love of her life and THE ONE who gives life everlasting. She had 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren affectionately referred to her as “Grandma Horsey.” They shared many wonderful meals and memories created by their grandmother.

Donald LeRoy Leadbetter, 79, of Ottawa, KS passed away February 6, 2022, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. Don was born in Luverne, ND on October 21, 1942 the son of Edward Leadbetter and Josephine (Anderson) Leadbetter. Don grew up in Luverne, ND and graduated from Luverne High School with the class of 1960. He then graduated from Bottineau School of Forestry and Valley State Teachers College.

Laurey Logan has been named principal of Wellsville Elementary for the 2022-2023 school year, USD 289 announced this week. Logan graduated from Emporia State University with a bachelor’s in elementary education, received her Masters in School Leadership from Kansas State University, and is currently completing her district-level licensure at Emporia State.
