Larry Duane Walrod

Larry Duane Walrod, age 83, of La Cygne, Kansas passed away Monday, February 21, 2022. He was born in Hume, Missouri on June 3, 1938 the son of George Morris and Marjorie Keith Walrod. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Darin Walrod. Larry is survived by his wife, Laura, two brothers, Bub and Fred Walrod (Sharon), two sisters, Phyllis Blaser (Terry), and Sue Clark (Jerry), Larry had three children, Lisa Miller, Deena Lewis (Scott) and Kimi Soto (Jesus). Including three grandchildren, Blain, Cambria, and Kylie and two great grandchildren (twins), Nova and Theo, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He graduated from Prescott High School and attended Pittsburg State University for two years, earning a degree in Industrial Engineering. He then served his country in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge in March of 1962. Larry went to the U.S. Army Ordinance Guided Missile School. He then was hired by a private company who was contracted by the United States Government where he programed missile testing.

Williamsburg holds second annual Mardi Gras Parade

Williamsburg held its annual Mardi Gras Parade over the weekend as an early celebration of the holiday, which falls on Tuesday, March 1 this year. Mardi Gras, French for Fat Tuesday, originated as a way for Christians to have one last day of feasting before Lent begins the next day. The city of New Orleans holds a world-famous Mardi Gras celebration each year, but for those who couldn’t make it to the Big Easy, Williamsburg held its very own mini-parade, complete with a Cajun feast. All proceeds from the dinner went to the Wellsville Community Building. The event was sponsored by the Williamsburg Community Club.

Commodity Profitability For Farmers

“Grain prices are at near record levels so what should a farmer do?” There were no definite answers but opportunities were reviewed during a recent Farm Profit Seminar in Ottawa. Tom Leffler, represent Tom Leffler, representing Leffler Commodities LLC, reviewed past, present, future agriculture in his presentation titled “Now What Do You Do?” Acknowledging the speaker’s presentation was prior to Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine, Leffler did discuss possible ramifications of that action.
