City Commission begins interview process to fill empty seat

During its March 21 study session, the Ottawa City Commission began interviewing candidates to fill an empty seat left by the resignation of Tom Weigand. Each of the three candidates interviewed were asked the same questions, although some follow-up questions may vary. Commissioners approve premium pay for employees who served during pandemic

During their March 23rd meeting, Franklin County commissioners approved a proposal to provide premium pay to employees who worked during the COVID-19 pandemic. The one-time payment, which will use funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), is available to all county employees who worked during the time period of March of 2020 to February 28, 2022.

Melva ”Jane” Shields

Melva Jane Shields, 88, of Ottawa, Kansas passed away peacefully on February 28th, 2022 at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, Florida. The Celebration of Life will be held on April 23rd, 2022 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 401 W 13th Street, Ottawa, Kansas 66067. Visitation starting at 10:00am, followed by the Service at 11:00am.
