During their April 6 meeting, Franklin County commissioners were briefed by County Financial Officer David Arteberry on options the County has for refinancing or paying off its outstanding debts. According to Arteberry, there are two public building bonds that will become callable to refinanced beginning in June, both of which were established in 2014.

The building that houses Rex’s Barbershop, an Ottawa staple for over 60 years, will be under new ownership come the end of the month, current owner Suzanne Browning announced. Browning says her father, Rex Browning, opened his barbershop near the Kansas State Bank on Main Street in 1960.
Wellsville FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) had its best ever showing at the 2022 Kansas FBLA State Leadership Conference in Topeka. The Wellsville chapter received first place as the Outstanding FBLA Chapter in Kansas, plus many other awards and recognitions.
Zachary Clayton was sworn in as an Ottawa City Commissioner during the April 7th meeting. Clayton, who previously ran for commission in the November regular election, was selected from five candidates to fill Tom Weigand’s seat upon his resignation. Clayton is an Ottawa native with a background in information technology and independent contracting.

The Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual fundraising auction from April 8 to 14, with items available for bidding to be on display at the PrimeTime Grille. The Chamber has decided to proceed with a virtual auction format, which was implemented last year due to the pandemic and received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community.
