OHS STATE CHAMPIONS

Ottawa High School celebrated five students at the second annual Night of Champions event hosted at PrimeTime Grille. WWII Victory Letter from Bob to Gwen

Wellington City Councilman, Rick Roitman recently was able to share an important letter that gave a glimpse into how loved ones communicated during WWII. Roitman, a retired US Navy Commander, served for 27 years and on this occasion honored a fellow Navy man, Bob Rice, by reading a letter he had written from his ship during WWII.

Before E-Mail, There was V-Mail

Unlike the telecom world of today, letters were the only way to stay in touch with loved ones during times of conflict. This process was made faster by the creation of V-Mail, which significantly sped up the speed, security, and shipping costs of correspondence between battlefront soldiers and their communities at home in the states.

MORE KANSAS FAMILIES RELYING ON FOOD PANTRIES, STUDY SHOWS, AS SNAP PARTICIPATION DECLINES

Fifty-two percent of Kansas food pantries reported serving more clients in 2021 than 2020, according to a new study from the University of Missouri. This trend is nationwide, as food pantries are experiencing an increased need in food assistance because of inflation and lingering effects of the pandemic.
