Ottawa FFA introduces 2022-2023 officers

Ottawa High School’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) organization is proud to introduce its eight officers for the 2022-2023 school year: Erin Livingston Chapter President: Ms. Livingston is a junior at OHS interested in Animal Science ang Agriculture Business and economics. She especially enjoys equine science and hopes to join the rodeo team in college and study Agriculture Science and Business. Her favorite part about FFA is “meeting new people from all over and being able to talk about agriculture”.

33rd Annual Bo’s Hog Wild charity event happening Saturday

_e 33rd annual Bo’s Hog Wild Brewfest and BBQ is happening this Saturday, August 27, in Baldwin City. _e event,which draws nearly 700 people each year,raises funds for local charities and nonprofits including Communities in Schools of Mid-America, Douglas County CASA, Franklin County DARE, and Just Food in Lawrence. Last year, the event raised over $75,000 for these organizations.

CHEK2 genetic mutation might increase risk of cancer

DEARDR.ROACH: My almost-42-year-old daughter was informed today by her gynecologist that she has two CHEK2 genetic mutations. She has always been healthy. She and her husband have three young children, so my daughter is rather concerned. _is revelation came during an otherwise routine visit with her gynecologist. Do you have any statistics on how many women with this genetic mutation actually develop breast or colon cancer? -- B.R.H.
