Clara C. Sayers, age 87 passed away Sept. 10, 2022, at her home in Pomona, KS. She was born Aug. 3, 1935, in Hickman, TN, the daughter of John J. Watts and Lela Pauline Williams Watts. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparent, Chester and Eliza Williams, bothers L.B. Watts and Doyle Watts, sister Hazel Severeid, and grandson Michael J. Ethridge. No School Monday for USD 290 students
Students in the Ottawa-USD 290 School District will be getting a break from the books on Monday. Instead of spending time in the classroom, district teachers will use the time for professional development.
Traffic signals to be replaced at 23rd, Main
The City of Ottawa will be replacing traffic signals at 23rd and Main streets next week. According to the city’s Facebook page, contractors will be replacing traffic signals at the intersection Tuesday and Wednesday.
Second citywide clean-up planned for Oct. 14-15
The City of Ottawa will be conducting a second citywide clean-up weekend next month for residents living within the city limits. Dumpsters will be available beginning 8 a.m.

Commissioners issue bonds to finance city improvements
Ottawa City commissioners proceeded with plans Wednesday morning to issue $2.55 million in general obligation bonds to finance improvements to portions of the city’s storm sewer system as well as three cityowned buildings. To finance the proposed improvements, city officials agreed to sell $5.255 million at a public sale in October.

Hate. s is an often-used word in our culture. Hate speech. Acts of hate. Hate crimes. Why do people hate? Sometimes it is aimed at others who are not like them and those who do not conform to their set of beliefs, values or convictions. y are not part of their political party, their religion, or maybe they are a different race or speak a different language. re is something within us as humans that seems to stiffen up or flat out reject those who are not like us. As a result, because of hate, there are always people in society that are rejected, condemned or seemingly pushed to the side.
