City requests proposals for new pool

Ottawa city commissioners are asking for proposals to develop a plan for a new municipal swimming pool. Commissioners have discussed the idea during recent meetings, but earlier this month, decided to request proposals to help the city’s newly formed swimming pool/water park task force determine the need for a new pool as well as planning a facility to meet those needs.

Vaping, loitering force school administrators to make policy changes

School officials are hoping changes to policies at the Ottawa middle and high schools will help curb problems with teens hanging out in student bathrooms, where they can potentially vape. During Thursday’s Ottawa-USD 290 Board of Education meeting, school officials heard from Superintendent Ryan Cobbs and OHS Principal Kelly Whittaker, who discussed the proposed changes and their plans for educating students and parents before the new policies go into effect.

Each gift box contains an assortment of products grown, raised or produced in Kansas, with two size options available: the Konza Box and the Ad Astra Box. From the Land of Kansas gift boxes allow for ease of purchase for family, friends or clients and add a personal, customized note for the holiday season.

County Farm Bureau chapter collecting food items

In an effort to make sure that no one goes hungry in Franklin County, the Franklin County Farm Bureau is partnering with the CONNECT Mobile Food Pantry to collect nonperishable food items that can be delivered by volunteers to local communities. Between Nov. 1-30, the county Kansas Farm Bureau chapter is challenging its members to donate one or several items that are most-needed at this time of year, including: canned chicken or tuna, pasta, rice, healthy cereal, peanut butter, pasta sauce, granola bars and potatoes. Donations can be dropped off the Farm Bureau office at 112 W. 17th St. in Ottawa. Cash donations are also welcome.
