James Lynch
James Lynch, 23, of Lawrence, died on December 27, 2022, in his home in Ottawa, KS. He is survived by his parents, Eric and Kara Lynch and his sister, Grace Lynch, all of Lawrence; his grandmother Betty Lynch of Lawrence; his many aunts and uncles Helen and John Bugh (Raytown MO), Chris and Melodie Lynch (Wildwood, NJ), Mary and Rob Matthews (Lawrence), Lori Bryan (Lawrence) and Pat and Sara Lynch (Desoto, KS). Phyllis Brown (El Dorado, KS), Darcy Woodham (Denver, CO), Danis and Karl Sprague (Orlando Fl), Kelley Gillum and Tony Plumb (Chelem, Mexico) and 19 first cousins.
Diane Jean Berry
Quenemo - Diane Jean Berry, 61, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on January 27, 1961, the daughter of Daniel and Erma (Redenbaugh) Sipp, Sr. in Topeka, Kansas. Diane had lived in Pomona, Lawrence and Ottawa, but had lived in Quenemo most of her life. She had worked as a Certified Medical Assistant at several nursing homes in Osage and Franklin Counties. She was a cancer survivor, having beat back breast cancer and ovarian cancer. On July 27, 1982, Diane was married to Patrick Berry in Ottawa, Kansas. They later divorced. To this union three children were born, Shannon, James and Kenneth. Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Erma. Diane is survived by her three children, Shannon Lynn Korrea-Nelson of Kansas City, Missouri, James Matthew Berry and Kennth Ray Berry, both of Quenemo; her two sisters, Barbara McCurdy and Nancy Anderson, both of Quenemo and her brother, Daniel Sipp, Jr. of Michigan; and her granddaughter, Aniqua Taizee Nelson. Funeral services for Diane will be at 12:00pm on Monday, January 9 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00pm on Sunday at the funeral home. Chamber opens up nominations for annual awards
The Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce wants to recognize local individuals who have made a difference during the past year by giving back to their communities. The chamber is currently taking nominations for the organization’s annual awards, including the Community Builder Award, Entrepreneur of the Year, Horizon Award, Russel Crites Award and Smile of the Year.
Proposed wastewater, water rate increases up for discussion Monday
Ottawa City commissioners will meet on Monday to discuss draft versions of two resolutions which, if adopted, would raise city wastewater and water rates later this year. During Monday’s study session, commissioners are expected to further discuss the need to raise utility rates as they have during several previous meetings.
OU women receive national attention
The Ottawa University women’s wrestling program, under second-year coach Dalton Weidl, is getting noticed on the national scene. The Lady Braves received votes in the latest NAIA poll.
Cyclone bowlers roll past Basehor
The Ottawa High School bowling teams had a successful opening day Thursday in its match against Basehor-Linwood. “The bowling team held its first match and did very well,” Ottawa bowling coach Nick Davis said.
Rosters set for 2023 Shrine Bowl
The initial rosters for the 2023 Kansas Shrine Bowl are set. These prep all-star players have been invited to participate in the 50th Kansas Shrine Bowl Presented by Mammoth to be played at Lewis Field Stadium, Fort Hays State University, at 7 p.m. July 15.
Prep wrestlers back on mat
The area high school wrestling teams return to the mat Saturday for the first time after the holidays. The wrestlers are off to a good start during the first three weeks of the season.
