Franklin County students were awarded scholarships to Kansas State University totaling $5,900 from the Franklin County Friends of K-State Alumni Club, the Col. Gayle Foster Endowed Scholarship Fund, the K-State Alumni Association, the Huschka family and the Lancaster family.

Archer extraordinaire Aydin Franks has added another medal to her extensive collection, clinching the first place title at the State Games of America in Iowa held last weekend. Franks, an incoming sophomore at Ottawa High School, competed against adults in the Open Female Class competition during the games, shooting an impressive 418 out of 480 possible points to win the gold.

Nightly lane closures are scheduled as part of a pavement improvement project on northbound and southbound I-35 from 215th Street to 167th Street beginning this week. The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) project includes placing pavement markings on all northbound and southbound I-35 lanes as well as entrance and exit ramps at Sunflower Road, Homestead Lane and Gardner Road.
