Dear Readers, Since October, and not because of any threatening or erratic Kansas weather, tornadoes have been on my mind more than usual. In the last three months, I’ve been agitated by news reports that a sequel to the 1996 movie “TWISTER” is being made (a release date has been set for June, 2024.) When the original hit movie theaters, I’d been living in Philadelphia for over a decade. By that time, my friends had learned to tell the difference between my smile and my grimace, so they’d refrained from making Oz jokes. And they generally kept their fascination about tornadoes to themselves.

Kansas teacher shortage prompts calls for higher salaries, student teacher pay As Kansas faces the worst teacher shortage it’s ever known, one group says the state needs to raise teacher pay, elevate the profession and offer student teachers a paycheck. “Part of the problem is our salaries in education stink,” said Rick Ginsburg, dean of education at the University of Kansas.
