Safe mobility serves as driving factor during Older Driver Safety week

Keeping older adults active in their communities and maintaining safe transportation are the goals of Older Driver Safety Awareness Week, which is Dec. 5-9. Normal activity such as shopping, working, volunteering and socializing should not become safety limitations or strand seniors at home, according to the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Kansas tax revenue lags revised November projection by more than 5%

The revised Kansas tax revenue projections proved too bullish in November as the state government collected 5.3 percent less than anticipated during the month. Economists and fiscal analysts increased by more than $750 million the state’s projected revenue for the current fiscal year, reasoning inflation would continue to stimulate expansion in tax collections.

Commissioners expected to discuss possible electric rate increase

Ottawa City commissioners were expected to discuss the city’s electric utility rate structure during Monday’s study session at city hall. The reason for the discussion, officials said, was because despite a recent electric rate increase in 2021, expenses continue to increase, including the ever-changing demand for power and the need to purchase additional electricity.

BOE sets special meeting for Wednesday

The USD 287-West Franklin Board of Education has planned a special meeting Wednesday to discuss the current superintendent search The board will meet at 7 p.m. in the district’s education center in Pomona. During the meeting, board members are expected to meet with Kansas Association of School Boards officials to discuss desired characteristics in a new superintendent, a candidate interview schedule and the final phases of the search process.
