Kansas attorney group announces support for Chris Mann
TOPEKA — Dozens of Kansas attorneys announced their support of attorney general candidate Chris Mann Thursday, saying they wanted a competent person in the office. The group, which launched under the name “Kansas Attorneys for Mann,” is made up of more than 140 Republican, Democratic and Independent attorneys across the state.
November election to decide Kansas Supreme Court, constitutional amendments
TOPEKA — In November, six of Kansas’ seven Supreme Court judges are up for retention votes, and two constitutional amendments will be decided. Advocacy groups say these choices on the November ballot offer voters an opportunity to shift Kansas’ political landscape.
Voter registration deadline nears
Voters wishing to cast their ballot in the November general election, but still need to register, have until Oct. 18 to do so.

Saturday meet and greet planned for Briles Schoolhouse
An open house for Peoria Township is scheduled from 2-4 p.m. Saturday (today) at the Briles Schoolhouse, located at 3305 Texas Road, east of Ottawa. The event gives locals the chance to meet their neighbors and township board as well as tour the newly renovated schoolhouse. The event is free and refreshments will be served.
Portion of S. Cedarto be closed through weekend
The City of Ottawa’s Utilities Department crews are resuming their work on the city’s waterline replacement project. As a result, the 1400 block of South Cedar Street will be closed to thru-traffic through Sunday.
Historical society postpones Sunday program
Nelly Don event rescheduled for Oct. 23 The Franklin County Historical Society’s program, “Dress for Success: Nelly Don and American Fashion,” a presentation and discussion by Marla Day, originally scheduled for Sunday has been postponed.
City plans open house for Monday
The City of Ottawa has planned an open house Monday evening to discuss city improvement projects that are planned to start this week. The public meeting is scheduled from 6-7 p.m.
