The Franklin County Development Council (FCDC) has launched a new section on its website that will allow local small businesses to conduct market research. The tool, called SizeUp Franklin County, will also be available on the websites of the City of Ottawa, Franklin County, Wellsville Chamber of Commerce, and Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.
The amusement rides in the midway were a big hit during the Franklin County Fair. This year’s carnival had several new attractions.
WASHINGTON — More than half of American farmers will reach retirement age in the next 10 years, but the steep price of entry to start a farm, along with rising input costs and volatile markets, make it tough for young and beginning farmers to take their places.
Several local students were selected to there Pittsburg State University spring honor rolls. To qualify for Dean’s Scholastic Honors, a student must complete at least 12 semester hours, receive a grade point average (GPA) of 3.6000 for all credit course work that semester and have no grade lower than a B and no grade of I in any course during the semester.
Visiting downtown Ottawa last week, I saw how Main Street businesses bring the community to life, and how industry is growing and bringing new jobs to the area. I participated in the resources offered at the library for families and kids to stay healthy and happy. I spoke with the Franklin County Farm Bureau and heard about some of the major issues facing farmers and ranchers. And, of course, I tried the ribs and fried okra at Smoked Creations.
Neosho County Community College-Ottawa Dean Dr. Marie Gardner and admissions staff from the Ottawa and Chanute campuses attended the Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (KACRAO) Summer Drive-In Conference at Hutchinson Community College on July 13.
Angela VanDeBerghe, a financial advisor for Edward Jones in Ottawa, received the Ted Jones Entrepreneurial Award for her work building relationships with clients. The Ted Jones Award is named for founder Edward Jones’ son and was given to 1,572 financial advisors firmwide in 2022 for their dedication to serving their clients.
The Franklin County Commission met for its regular weekly meeting on Wednesday at the Franklin County Annex. Here are a few of the items discussed during the meeting: • Commissioners approved a contract with Central Heights USD 288 for a school resource officer (SRO).
