An officer with the Ottawa Police Department stopped a vehicle for speeding at the intersection of East Logan (K-68 Hwy) and North Davis Ave shortly before 6:00 p.m. Saturday night. The officer contacted the driver and suspected the driver was under the influence of alcohol and requested a second officer respond to assist.
Early Saturday morning, officers with the Ottawa Police Department were dispatched to a fight in progress at South Beach Cove, 1608 S. Main Street, Ottawa. While responding to the fight call dispatch received reports of multiple shots fired outside of the bar in the parking lot by a suspect.
TOPEKA — Joellen Schmidt has spent much of her life dedicated to helping those in need when they need it most. Alongside her husband, Jerald, she raised seven children, welcomed 25 foreign exchange students into her home and helped 50 foster care children in need of a temporary place to stay.
Residents of unincorporated southwest Johnson County and southeast Douglas County met for a public hearing on the possible formation of the City of Clearfield. Those that addressed the Douglas County commissioners Wednesday, June 15 in a three and a half hour public hearing were mostly from Douglas County and were opposed to losing their rural, farm lifestyle in Douglas County outside Eudora, Vinland and Baldwin City.

Ingrid Perkins, Wellsville, was among more than 4,700 students at Missouri State University to be named to the spring 2022 dean’s list. For undergraduate students, criteria include enrollment in at least 12 credit hours during the spring semester and at least a 3.50 GPA (on a 4.00 scale).
Abigail Faith Naylor, Ottawa, was among more than 500 Central Methodist University students that earned degrees this spring. Naylor majored in Biology and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree (Honors in the Major, Magna Cum Laude).
