Two local students received academic honors from MidAmerica Nazarene University. The University recently announced its President's, Dean's List and Honor Roll for the spring 2022 semester. A total of 388 students qualified for one of the honors.
Elizabeth Dyer, Ottawa, graduated with a Master of Arts in Education from Avila University's Class of 2022, which was the University's 105th graduating class.Dyer was amongst nearly 400 graduates who received their undergraduate and master's degrees this spring.
The Richmond Community Museum opened this past Memorial Day weekend and will remain open through Labor Day weekend. The museum will be open each Saturday and Sunday, 1 p.m.
Pam Harris has been appointed the Franklin County Health Department’s Public Health Assistant Director, the organization announced Thursday. Harris was previously employed at AdventHealth Ottawa for 43 and held a variety of positions, most recently as the Director of Physician Enterprises.
Once a month, volunteers from Prairie Paws Animal Shelter bring fluffy, wiggly balls of therapy to the residents at area nursing homes. The doggy dates not only provide residents with something to look forward to, they’re also the perfect opportunity for shelter dogs to socialize and learn to be comfortable around people.
TOPEKA — Former police officer and prosecutor Chris Mann filed Thursday to seek the Kansas Democratic Party’s nomination for attorney general. Mann, of Lawrence, would compete in the general election against winner of the Republican primary Aug.
After nine years representing Kansas’s 59th Judicial District, Ottawa native Blaine Finch has announced he will be retiring from the Legislature at the end of his term in January 2023. Finch, a Republican, currently serves as Speaker Pro Tem, the second-highest ranking in the Kansas House.
During its May 23 study session, the Ottawa City Commission continued to review the city’s 2023 operating budget. Representatives from a number of departments spoke before the commission to present their budget proposals for the coming year. The departments that spoke on Monday are as follows:
TOPEKA — Kansas is awarding $7 million to 11 transportation projects across the state through the Cost Share Program. The state-run initiative is intended to improve safety, job retention and growth, and improve access and mobility to cities and counties through transportation.
