You may have heard this term but did not really know what FCDC is or does for our community. The Franklin County Development Council is an organization that is focused on economic development in Franklin County. We work to attract new industry as well as support the industry that is already here in our community. A healthy industrial environment provides quality jobs, excellent tax revenue for the cities and county, and helps attract new residents to our community. All of this provides for a strong local economy.

HAYS, Kansas — The COVID-19 pandemic hit air travel hard. The number of canceled flights skyrocketed, airlines hemorrhaged billions in losses and a lack of passengers turned once-bustling airports into ghost towns.

They call themselves Stoners, but not for the reason you may expect: this group of individuals, led by Stan Nichols, spend weekends, evenings, and any other free time they have straightening, cleaning and resetting the gravestones of veterans at Ottawa’s Hope Cemetery.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the man in the photo above. Deputies would like to speak with him regarding an active theft investigation. If recognize him, please call 785-242- 3800 and ask to speak to a deputy.

The Kansas Supreme Court issued a 101-page disciplinary opinion Friday disbarring former Shawnee County prosecutor Jacqie Spradling for a pattern of unethical conduct resulting in “significant prejudice” against the accused.
