The Ottawa Library is marking a century-and-a-half of service to the community with an all-year celebration that kicked off last month. On March 25, the Library hosted an anniversary party for guests that included cupcakes, balloons, and even 3D-printed woodburned bookmarks emblazoned with the anniversary logo.
The City of Ottawa has received a $5 million Building a Stronger Economy (BASE) Grant from the Strengthening People and Revitalizing Kansas (SPARK) Committee, City Manager Richard Nienstedt announced Wednesday.

As most are aware, the Easter holiday is a celebration of resurrection. Over two years after the COVID-19 pandemic shut most businesses down, including churches, local places are expecting a revival of their own, at least in terms of members returning to worship in-person this holiday.
During its April 13 meeting, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners discussed how to allocate funding from the Transient Guest Tax (TGT), which is collected from hotel guests who stay in the County.
Wreaths Across Franklin County needs to purchase more wreaths and materials for upkeep on the wreaths being used to don on veterans graves during the Christmas holiday. The organization will have a fundraiser 4-7 p.m.
A 26-year-old man was killed when a hay trailer hit his motorcycle Monday afternoon. According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Edward Gulley of Osawatomie was heading south on Vermont Road in Rantoul when he was struck by the trailer, which was being towed into a field.
The legislature finished the 2022 regular session and will begin the 2022 veto session on April 25. There were several pieces of legislation passed by the legislature. Let’s hope the governor doesn’t veto them.

A massive rock of cultural and spiritual significance to the Kaw Nation moved from Tecumseh to Lawrence nearly a century ago to honor the city’s settlers will be relocated to tribal land near Council Grove with a $5 million grant from the Mellon Foundation.
