The City of Ottawa held its monthly Legislative Coffee on April 16 with Commissioner Sara Caylor as a moderator. Two state Representatives, Blaine Finch of the 59th House District and Mark Samsel of the 5th House District, and one Senator, Caryn Tyson of the 12th District, were present to answer questions from Caylor and audience members about the work they have been doing at the State Capitol.
The East Central Kansas Area Agency on Aging (ECKAAA) is asking community members to submit their favorite recipes for a cookbook to be created as a fundraiser for the Meals on Wheels program, which provides food to seniors in need.
Black Jack Battlefield and Nature Park in Wellsville is hosting its first annual “Flapjacks at Black Jack” pancake breakfast and Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 16. Pancakes will be prepared and served by Black Jack board members and topped with syrup from Black Jack’s own maple trees.

When Zach Clayton heard there was an open seat on the Ottawa City Commission following the resignation of Tom Weigand, his next move was a “no-brainer”, he said. Clayton, an Ottawa native who has experience in IT and now works in general contracting and house flipping, had never been politically active until about six months ago.
Four local organizations – the Franklin County Development Council (FCDC), the East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Coalition (ECKAN), Childcare Aware Eastern Kansas, and the Kansas State University Research and Extension District – are partnering to hold a community childcare discussion on April 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Franklin County Annex.
TOPEKA — A Hutchinson state representative purportedly declared aloud during a bipartisan Kansas House floor recognition of Women’s History Month that women earned less in the workplace because men worked with more intensity at their jobs, two female legislators said.

Zachary Clayton was sworn in as an Ottawa City Commissioner during the April 7th meeting. Clayton, who previously ran for commission in the November regular election, was selected from five candidates to fill Tom Weigand’s seat upon his resignation. Clayton is an Ottawa native with a background in information technology and independent contracting.
Wellsville FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) had its best ever showing at the 2022 Kansas FBLA State Leadership Conference in Topeka. The Wellsville chapter received first place as the Outstanding FBLA Chapter in Kansas, plus many other awards and recognitions.
