Ottawa Chamber holds Legislative Coffee

Senator Caryn Tyson and Representatives Blaine Finch and Mark Samsel answered questions from constituents at February’s Legislative Coffee Saturday morning. February 24 marked the legislature’s “turnaround day”, meaning all non-exempt bills were required to advance out of their house of origin by that day or they are considered dead for the session.

Commodity Profitability For Farmers

“Grain prices are at near record levels so what should a farmer do?” There were no definite answers but opportunities were reviewed during a recent Farm Profit Seminar in Ottawa. Tom Leffler, represent Tom Leffler, representing Leffler Commodities LLC, reviewed past, present, future agriculture in his presentation titled “Now What Do You Do?” Acknowledging the speaker’s presentation was prior to Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine, Leffler did discuss possible ramifications of that action.

City introduces street improvement and rehabilitation plan for 2022

Ottawa’s Director of Utilities Dennis Tharp introduced his department’s street improvement and rehabilitation plan for this year to city commissioners during a study session Monday afternoon. According to Tharp, the plan, which was put together by the city’s engineer, budgets $250,000 for street rehabilitation throughout the year – an amount that should provide a “significant cushion” for the work in the plan as well as any additional work that may arise in the coming months, Tharp said.
