Margaret Reinert, Ottawa, was among nearly 100 Emporia State University students named to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences dean’s list in the fall 2021 semester. To qualify for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences dean’s list, students earned a semester grade point average that puts them in the top 10 percent of all students enrolled in full-time undergraduate work within the college and have a cumulative 3.5 GPA for all Emporia State courses.
Wichita State University and the University of Kansas will receive $11 million in scholarship funds from the estate of the late Richard “Dick” Smith. The gift was announced Wednesday during a ceremony at WSU’s Marcus Welcome Center.
TOPEKA — Early-on-set Alzheimer’s disease led to rancher Charles Imthurn’s placement in a Kansas assisted living facility and it was dementia that prompted his involuntary discharge. Imthurn’s wife, Rachel, said the facility providing care for her husband and five other Alzheimer’s patients with issues related to memory, thinking and behavior decided without warning to get out of that line of business.

Laurey Logan has been named principal of Wellsville Elementary for the 2022-2023 school year, USD 289 announced this week. Logan graduated from Emporia State University with a bachelor’s in elementary education, received her Masters in School Leadership from Kansas State University, and is currently completing her district-level licensure at Emporia State.
The Franklin County Historical Society held its 85th annual meeting on February 6 over Zoom. Guest speaker Bob Walz, author and director of the Santa Fe Railroad Historic and Modeling Society, presented a slideshow called Santa Fe Depots: Form and Function, which included several of the fifteen Santa Fe Railroad depots that once stood in Franklin County.
Keela Velvick, Richmond was among 1,666 students who earned places on the Dean’s Honor Roll at Fort Hays State University for the fall 2021 semester. The Dean’s Honor Roll includes undergraduate students only.
Megan Davis, Princeton, has been named to the fall 2021 Dean’s List at the University of Findlay. To earn this achievement, a student must attain a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
The artwork of Wellsville High School senior Kathryn Thompson has received a Gold and Silver Key from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, the country’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for seventh through twelfth grade students involved in the creative arts.
