Ottawa University receives e-bikes as part of initiative with Live Healthy Franklin County

Ottawa University has received 10 electronic bikes for students to use on and off-campus, thanks to a grant and partnerships with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas, Ottawa Bike and Trail, RideKC, Bike Walk KC, and Live Healthy Franklin County. The bikes were first available for student use on January 26.

Assisted living facility residents in Kansas lack right to appeal involuntary discharge

TOPEKA — Early-onset Alzheimer’s disease led to rancher Charles Imthurn’s placement in a Kansas assisted living facility and it was dementia that prompted his involuntary discharge. Imthurn’s wife, Rachel, said the facility providing care for her husband and five other Alzheimer’s patients with issues related to memory, thinking and behavior decided without warning to get out of that line of business.

Friends of the COF holds first annual cornhole tournament

The Ottawa Herald The Friends of the COF held its first annual cornhole tournament on February 6 at the Bottle House in Ottawa. All proceeds from the event go to COF Training Services, a not-for-profit organization that provides day programs and residential services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Coffey, Osage and Franklin Counties.

Ottawa student wins Ag Quiz Bowl at Farm Bureau Conference

Franklin County’s Isaac Wingert was part of the winning Ag Quiz Bowl Team at the Kansas Farm Bureau (KFB) Young Farmers & Ranchers Leaders Conference on January 29th in Manhattan. Isaac is a junior studying Agricultural Economics at K-State and is pictured here with KFB President Rich Felts and the rest of the winning K-State team. Proud parents are Harold and Kathie Wingert. Franklin County Farm Bureau Association was well represented with 11 members attending the conference in Manhattan. In total, nearly 380 young farmers and ranchers from across the state of Kansas attended the conference and took home valuable knowledge and tools to continue to move agriculture forward into the future.
