Jason Edwards and his mom Almeda are century farm owners and business operators in Ottawa. They currently own land at 3800 Montana Road, of which he is trying to obtain a special use permit from the Franklin County Planning Commission. He first applied in October of 2024 for his special use permit. The permit he is applying for is to operate a Commercial Solar Energy Conversion System. However, without knowing what Edwards is trying to accomplish, it could be easy for his project to get confused with other large-scale commercial solar projects.

Feb. 28 a burn ban was issued for Franklin County by the Emergency Management Director, Thomas Winter, due to a Red Flag Warning. It was later lifted on March 1.

On Feb. 8 a teacher, Mark Elliott Gridley, was arrested on charges of sexual assault with a minor at the Prairie Park Elementary School in Lawrence, Kansas. After the arrest, more evidence was brought forward that the alleged assault occurred with eight students at the school.
This week’s Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce Coffee was at AdventHealth Ottawa Hospital. The new CEO, Brendan Johnson, introduced himself and described his goals for the future.
