The first week in August has been named Simplify Your Life Week by some optimistic souls to encourage the rest of us to de-clutter and get organized. I’m pretty sure it’s going to take me more than a week.

Students receive KSU scholarships
Seven area students were awarded scholarships to Kansas State University totaling $6,500 from the Franklin County Friends of K-State Alumni Club, the Col. Gayle Foster Endowed Fund, the K-State Alumni Association, the Huschka family and the Lancaster family.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ (NAIA) National Administrative Council (NAC) Executive Committee has approved Women’s Flag Football as an invitational sport for the 2025-26 season — a significant milestone for collegiate flag football, which launched as an emerging sport in the NAIA in 2021.
New petting zoo coming to town
Ally and Phill Jordan and their family of six are in the process of bringing something new to Franklin County, a petting zoo. Right now the family has a miniature horse, donkeys, goats, chickens with the intention of adopting more animals.
Richmond Free Fair 2025
Building on its success of the last 100 years, The 2025 Richmond Free Fair went on July 10th, 11th, and 12th.
1 day road construction
Franklin County sent a media release for a road rehab and repair project in Ottawa. It is set to start on July 11 and will complete the following day on the 12. The roads effected will be on 14th Street between Main and Cedar. This part of the road may be limited in use. The timeline of the project could be extended where permitted.
